The latest high-end device from LG is a replacement for the LG G3, which surprisingly did well amidst fierce competition from the Samsung and Apple phones.
Recent phones from the Korean company have been a major step up in terms of quality and features. This was the case with the LG G3, which became one of the first to sport a 2K display. The replacement for this device comes in the form of the LG G4.
Design
Just like the numerous features on the LG G4, it is evolutionary rather than revolutionary compared with its predecessor. The device largely feels the same while taking a glance, but subtle changes have been made to this new version. Quality has been improved on the LG G4 compared to the LG G3, but the changes are not like day and night. The phone continues to come with a familiar button just below the rear camera, and it continues to remain as a signature feature of the G series.
Screen
The amazing 5.5-inch display with 2K resolution at its helm continues, but changes to its technology have been done to make it more energy efficient and visible even in direct sunlight. Rather than the True HD-IPS technology on the LG G3, the new device features the IPS technology alone. The width of the G4 has been increased slightly, and this has compromised the edge-to-edge feel given by the LG G3.
Speed
The LG G3 continues to remain as one of the top devices in benchmark tests, and this is because of the Snapdragon 801 processor, which has a quad-core 2.5 GHz clock speed to run the Android operating system. The LG G4 comes with the new age Snapdragon 808 processor, which is an interesting choice given that the 810 range has faced severe criticism about its efficiency and heat dissipation. This 808 processor combines a quad-core 1.4 GHz processor along with a dual-core 1.8 GHz processor to provide excellent speed.
Versions
The LG G3 was sold in two different versions depending upon the amount of RAM available. While the 16 GB device only had 2 GB of RAM, the 32 GB model came with 3 GB at its disposal. LG has completely done away with the 16 GB version and now offers the G4 with only 32 GB and 3 GB of RAM configuration. Since 3G is seen as the least requirement for a high-end smartphone running on Android, this should take care of the memory requirements within the OS. For other additional purposes, the phone can support microSD cards of up to 128 GB. This feature remains comparable with the LG G3.
Camera
The rear camera with its lesser focus feature continues to impress in the LG G4, but more importantly, it has an eight megapixel front facing camera compared to just two megapixels on the LG G3, which costs around $350. The newly launched LG G4, meanwhile, is priced at around $620.
